Kamilah's Legacy:
A New Day in Equine Excellence
Kamilah the Miracle Filly joined us on March 16th, 2022, when she was born to Om El Shahnoor and Atticus ENB, distinguished figures in the Om El Arab lineage of purebred Arabian horses. Not only was her birth a notable moment in Arabian equine history, but unbeknownst to us at the time, she would stand as a true expression of her heritage. The day tragedy struck, it was the eternal spirit of her noble ancestors that gave Kamilah the resilience to fight for her life. Each day since, Kamilah makes her illustrious forebears proud. She has taken her place as the contemporary symbol of an ancient line of Arabians, that is as old as memory itself.
Kamilah's
Turning Point:
A Life-Changing
Injury
In a cruel twist of fate, when Kamilah was only six weeks old, her life took a tragic turn. On April 29, 2022, a veterinarian was giving her an unexpected injection, when Kamilah reared up on her hind legs and fell on her back. Kamilah’s backbone penetrated her spinal cord, leaving her paralyzed.
Kamilah's Darkest Hour:
On the Edge of Loss
The nation’s best veterinarian doctors examined Kamilah at UC Davis Hospital. Despite the world’s best medical resources, they saw no viable treatment for Kamilah's spinal injury. Every doctor put her chances of recovery at between zero percent and one percent. The unanimous verdict of the medical community was that Kamilah must be euthanized.
What remained was the task of arranging for Om el-Shahnoor, Kamilah’s devoted mother who stood vigilantly by, to say goodbye before taking Shahnoor back home alone. This would be the darkest night.
“It is something that we are a little bit out of our element in terms of it being a different species, because I'm used to working with dogs and cats and not horses.”
“I remember having that conversation with Angela: “It’s not good!” - but it was very somber and very scary because it is hard. From the middle of the back forward Kamilah was a normal six week old foal.”

Kamilah's Leap of Faith:
Venturing Beyond the Known
From this terrifying moment of grief, unfolded a brave decision: Kamilah’s family would do all that could be done to save the little filly’s life. They would choose the path of attempting an unprecedented canine spinal surgery upon Kamilah. Veterinarians advised against it, saying that surgery was simply a postponement of euthanasia. Besides, such surgery has never been performed on a horse.
In a leap of faith, a veterinarian with expertise in spinal surgery for large dogs came forward to attempt a novel procedure. For Kamilah, this represented her only chance at life itself. With hope, prayer, and belief in the power of miracles, Team Kamilah confronted the unknown. Kamilah would defy the greatest of odds, and reclaim her Arabian spirit.
Kamilah's Victory:
A Prayer Heard Around the World
The surgery extended for almost eight hours. Each moment turned into an agonizing eternity. Meanwhile, Kamilah’s family waited anxiously, seeking any positive indication of the outcome. Around the world, Kamilah’s well-wishers prayed to God, appealing for her recovery. In this moment, a miraculous sign appeared: a cross distinctly formed in the bark of a tree within the hospital's grounds, a boding of the surgical team's triumph over Kamilah's injury.
Kamilah's Recovery: Resilience, Faith, and Collective Strength
Following her operation, Kamilah's once paralyzed hind legs slowly began to revive, evidence of the power of shared hope. Prayer after prayer was answered with each passing day. With the help of her mother Shahnoor, her family, and a global community of supporters, Kamilah displayed incredible strength of spirit. After an extensive two-month stay in the hospital, Kamilah was well enough to trot out of the hospital, into her trailer, and return home. Her initial, cautious steps not only marked her physical recovery but also offered lessons in courage, hope, and unwavering perseverance to all who have witnessed her journey.
Kamilah's Future:
Freedom, Heritage,
and Inspiration
Upon returning home from hospital, Kamilah was warmly greeted by her Uncle Zips High Noon DCA, a.k.a. Wyatt and Uncle Om el-Salmaan, who had been waiting patiently for her and Shahnoor's arrival. Kamilah’s recovery continues under the watch of her dedicated medical and rehabilitation teams. Six months after her return home, a subsequent surgery removed the metallic supports and ten pounds of cement from her spine, setting her free to gallop alongside with her mother, and feel like a horse once more. Kamilah's life is the story of shared experiences, of the depth of the human-animal connection, and of the force of faith in miracles. Her life will forever be a source of profound inspiration, holding the torch of hope for all who learn of her remarkable tale.
